Govt works in planned way to prevent river erosion: Zaheed

MYMENSINGH, Sept 24, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque today said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working in a planned way to prevent river erosion in the country.

“Bangladesh is a riverine country. Engineers from the Ministry of Water Resources and the Water Development Board have been working round the clock to prevent river erosion in the country by removing the river silt through dredging,” he said while addressing a rally at Nandail Upazila Parishad Hall here.

Local lawmaker Anwarul Abedin Khan Tuhin and Nandail Upazila Chairman Hasan Mahmud Jewel were present, among others, on the occasion.

The state minister offered wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the Upazila Parishad premises.

Additional Secretary Mahmudul Islam, Director General of Water Development Board AKM Aminul Islam, Mymensingh Circle Supervising Engineer Md Shahjahan Siraj, Mymensingh Executive Engineer Mohammad Musa and Sub-Divisional Engineer Md Shahsuddoha were present.

Later, Zaheed visited New Dhaleshwari river and Sediment basin in Tangail under the Buriganga River Restoration Project.

He will return to Dhaka on Sunday after a four-day visit to Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Dinajpur.
