DHAKA, July 2, 2018 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court
(SC) today upheld stay on BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s bail in a
murder case lodged against her in Cumilla, asking the High Court to dispose
of the matter with four months.

“Disposed of, stay,” said a four-member Appellate Division bench headed by
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

Eight people were killed as a petrol bomb was hurled on a bus in Cumilla’s
Chauddagram on Feb 3, 2015, during the BNP-Jamaat alliance’s blockade. Two
separate cases — including one for murder — were filed over the incident.

The High Court on May 28 granted the BNP chief bail in the two cases.
Following a plea of the state, the Appellate Division on May 31 stayed the
bail and asked the state to file leave to appeal.

The apex court however, upheld bail for Khaleda in the case lodged over
subversion in Cumilla.
