10,454 COVID-19 patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 24, 2020 (BSS) – The number of recovered coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rose to 10,454 with the healing of 38 infected people on Tuesday in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients presently stands at 89.01 percent in the division where the healing rate continues increasing as improved health services and treatments are being provided to the infected patients.

“The daily infection rate is also showing a declining trend consistently across the division during the last three consecutive weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

On Tuesday, the daily coronavirus infection rate stood at only 8.51 percent when 32 people were found COVID-19 positive after testing 376 collected samples of the division at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur.

The 10,454 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,426 of Rangpur, 538 of Panchagarh, 968 of Nilphamari, 775 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 780 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 991 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 infected patients rose to 11,744 as 32 new positive cases were reported from Rangpur division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 11,744 patients stands at 2,768 in Rangpur, 604 in Panchagarh, 1,037 in Nilphamari, 850 in Lalmonirhat, 889 in Kurigram, 1,107 in Thakurgaon, 3,339 in Dinajpur and 1,150 Gaibandha.

“Since the beginning, we have tested a total of 66,962 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday, and of them, 11,744 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 17.53 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average recovery rate of COVID-19 infected patients (89.01 percent) is currently 5.07 times higher than the infection rate (17.53 percent) in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 211 in Rangpur division with one more death reported from Panchagarh on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 211 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha, Kurigram and Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 11,744 coronavirus infected patients now stands at over 1.79 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,744 COVID-19 infected patients, 97 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,454 patients and 211 deaths while 982 remaining in home isolations.

“A total of 78,588 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, and among them, 74,386 have so far been released and 4,202 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the daily COVID-19 infection rate declines while the recovery rate of infected patients increases during the last three weeks bringing relief to the common people.

He especially called upon the common people to properly abide by the health directives of the government to further reduce the COVID-19 infection in the division.
