HC rules over bail plea of former ward councillor Rajib

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2020 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not allow bail to former ward councillor Tarekuzzaman Rajib in a graft case.

A High Court virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order, cancelling a bail plea of the former councillor of ward-33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Dhaka senior special judge court on February 6 scrapped the plea for bail of Rajib.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rajib from a flat in Basundhara Residential Area on late October 19, 2019. The elite crime busting agency seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign-made pistol, a magazine with three bullets, Taka 33 thousand in cash and a passport from that flat.

RAB later searched his Mohammadpur house and office but could not trace anything except a cheque of Taka five crore. They suspect that Rajib had managed to shift all things which can relate him to his notorious activities.

RAB on late October 20 handed Rajib over to Bhatara Police Station, filing two cases against him.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on November 6 filed the case for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 26.16 crore.
