44 more infected in coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) – Forty-four more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) after testing samples today at the two laboratories in Rangpur division where spread of the virus continues to decline in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 44 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts in the division at the laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur at the infection rate of 11.70 percent.

Of them, 23 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory today at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The new 23 patients include 12 of Rangpur, two of Lalmonirhat, six of Gaibandha and three of Kurigram,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM NurunnabiLyzu said.

On the other hand, 21 more new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 21 new COVID-19 patients include 10 of Dinajpur, eight of Thakurgaon and three of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:55 pm tonight.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 11,670 as 44 new cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,670 patients stands at 2,751 in Rangpur, 596 in Panchagarh, 1,026 in Nilphamari, 843 in Lalmonirhat, 887 in Kurigram, 1,096 in Thakurgaon, 3,329 in Dinajpur and 1,142 Gaibandha districts.,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
