MATERNAL HEALTH-MEETING-HELD
Maternal Health Development and Family Planning Sub-Committee meeting held
DHAKA, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) –The 14th meeting of the sub-committee on Strengthening Parliament’s Capacity in Population and Development Issues (SPCPD) project under the technical assistance of UNFPA on “Maternal Health Development, Ensuring Safe Delivery and Family Planning” was held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here today.
Chairman of the committee ASM Feroz presided over the meeting, said an official press release.
Committee members- Md. Abdus Shahid, MP, Md. Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, MP, and Md. Habibe Millat, MP were also present at the meeting.
Besides, committee member Md. Shamsul Haque Tuku, MP joined the meeting virtually.
The meeting requested the electronic and print media to create awareness among the people about family planning programmes aimed at reducing unplanned pregnancies, reducing maternal mortality rate, increasing women’s participation in works and ensuring population control in Bangladesh, it added.
The meeting recommended to the Ministry of Health to take effective measures for making the “Maternal Health Protection Bill” into a law as soon as possible.
Among others, Senior Secretary of Parliament Secretariat Dr. Jafar Ahmed Khan, Project Director M. A Kamal Billah, Deputy Project Director AKM Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan and Technical Officer Khandaker Zakiur Rahman and senior officials of Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
