Two sentenced to death for killing AL leader in Natore

NATORE, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced two people to death in the murder case of Natore’s much-talked Awami League (AL) leader Dr Aynal Haque.

Judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman Siddique of Natore Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict at 12pm.

The convicts are– Mohammad Shohrab, son of Bahar Uddin Mollah of Mahishbhanga village in Baraigram upazila and Mohammad Shamim, son of Polan Mollah.

In addition to the execution, both were given a fine of Taka 10 thousand.

According to the details of the case, freedom fighter Dr Aynal Haque, president of Baraigram Upazila Awami League and chairman of Majhgaon Union Parishad of the upazila, was the victim of a terrorist attack in Bonpara on the night of March 28,2002.

He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died on the next day.

Nazma Begum, daughter-in-law of the deceased, filed a murder case with Baraigram Police Station on March 31, naming 17 people.

The then OC of the police station Md Idris Ali Bhuiyan filed the chargesheet on March 19, 2003 excluding Ekramul Alam, former chairman of Baraigram Upazila Parishad and former president of Upazila BNP and Saher Uddin Mollah, president of Juba Dal, both of whom are dead now.

The two were included in the chargesheet (CS) after the judicial investigation was conducted upon plaintiffs Naraji petition.

Judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman Siddique handed down the

verdict under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
