BAF spreads seed balls by helicopters for forestation

DHAKA, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Air Force has undertaken reforestation programme in remote coastal areas of the country and Chattogram hill tracts in co-ordination with Forest Department.

Under the reforestation programme, seed balls were thrown from helicopters in the coastal areas, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, yesterday and today, said a press release.

Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat provided necessary guidance to carry out the reforestation programme.

On September 3, the necessary essentials and seeds were collected from Patuakhali and processed as seed balls at BAF Headquarters in the capital city Dhaka.

The processed seed balls were spread by helicopters in the coastal areas of Domar Char in Noakhali as the places are inaccessible and unsuitable for road travel, added the press release.

The reforestation programme will play an important role in protecting the natural environment of Bangladesh to reduce sea level from rising and deforestation caused due to greenhouse effect.
