COVID-19 cases rise to 11,626 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 21, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose to 11,626 in Rangpur division where 89 new patients were reported after testing 498 samples at three COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Sunday.

Health officials said the daily infection rate among the tested 498 samples on Sunday stood at 17.87 percent in Rangpur division.

“During the past three weeks, the daily infection rate continues to decline amid increasing recovery rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the 11,626 patients stands at 2,739 in Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,023 in Nilphamari, 841 in Lalmonirhat, 884 in Kurigram, 1,088 in Thakurgaon, 3,319 in Dinajpur and 1,136 in Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 65,834 collected samples of the division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 11,626 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 17.65 percent.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 10,305 with the healing of 77 more people in the division on Sunday at the average recovery rate of 88.63 percent,” Siddique said.

The average recovery rate of 88.63 percent is currently 5.02 times higher than the average infection rate of 17.65 percent in the division.

The 10,305 recovered patients include 2,361 of Rangpur, 532 of Panchagarh, 962 of Nilphamari, 749 of Lalmonirhat, 812 of Kurigram, 761 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 968 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the number of total fatalities rose to 209 in the division with two more deaths reported from Rangpur and Dinajpur on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 209 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 12 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at over 1.79 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,626 COVID-19 infected patients, 99 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,305 patients and 209 deaths while 1,013 remaining in home isolations.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 275 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 340 others released in the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 78,297 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 73,913 released and 4,384 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection continues declining while the recovery rate increases in Rangpur division.

“People should wear masks while remaining outside homes and abide by health directives to prevent spread of COVID-19 as a second wave of spreading the deadly virus infection is likely to strike during the upcoming winter season,” he added.
