Testimony in DU student rape case starts
DHAKA, Sept 20, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today started recording
deposition of the prosecution witnesses (PWs) in a case lodged over the rape
of a Dhaka University student in the capital’s Kurmitola area.
Father of the victim and plaintiff of the case today testified before the
Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 and was cross-
examined by the defence afterwards.
After that Judge Begum Mosammat Kamrunnahar of the tribunal adjourned the
hearing in the case till tomorrow.
The court on August 26 framed charge against the lone accused Majnu in the
case.
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed
charge-sheet in the case on March 16, making a total 16 people witnesses in
the case.
The student of Dhaka University was raped on the evening of January 5, and
her father filed the case with Cantonment Police Station the next day.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on January 7 managed to detain the culprit
Majnu and later the victim too identified him.
