88.87pc COVID-19 patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 19, 2020 (BSS) – More than 88.87 percent coronavirus (COVID-
19) infected patients have recovered against the average infection rate of
17.68 percent since the beginning in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“A total of 10,177 COVID-19 patients out of 11,490 infected have healed at
the recovery rate of 88.87 percent till Friday night,” Focal Person of COVID-
19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told
BSS today.

At the same time, a total of 64,960 collected samples of Rangpur division
were tested till Friday night, and of them, 11,490 were found COVID-19
positive with an average infection rate of 17.68 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The recovery rate continues increasing consistently during the last two
consecutive weeks following improved treatments being provided to the
patients amid a falling trend in the daily infection rate.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate of 17.68 percent is currently five
times less that the recovery rate of 88.87 percent in the division,” Dr.
Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,177 with
the healing of 11 more infected people on Friday across the division.

Among the 10,177 recovered COVID-19 patients, 2,334 of Rangpur, 520 of
Panchagarh, 953 of Nilphamari, 720 of Lalmonirhat, 789 of Kurigram, 757 of
Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 944 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, only 92 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing
765 collected samples at the three COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur
and Dhaka on Friday raising their total number to 11,490 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the 11,490 patients now stands at 2,714 in
Rangpur, 583 in Panchagarh, 1,008 in Nilphamari, 833 in Lalmonirhat, 880 in
Kurigram, 1,056 in Thakurgaon, 3,292 in Dinajpur and 1,124 Gaibandha.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed
said the total number of fatalities rose to 206 in the division as one more
death was reported from Panchagarh on Friday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 46 in
Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in
Gaibandha and Kurigram, 12 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The casualty rate among the total infected patients currently stands at
about 1.79 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,490 COVID-19 infected patients, 100 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,177
patients and 206 deaths while 1,007 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 77,863 people of the division were put in
quarantines, and of them, 73,410 released and 4,453 are currently remaining
in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today
said the infection rate continues to decline while the recovery rate
increases in the division.

“We’ve taken inclusive steps to provide improved health services to the
infected patients and inspire the common people in wearing masks, maintaining
physical distance and abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19
spread,” Dr. Lyzu added.
