COVID-19 cases rise to 11,398 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 18, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose to 11,398 in Rangpur division where 65 new patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Thursday.

“The daily infection rate continues to decline and recovery rate to increase in the division during the past couple of weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the total 11,398 patients stands at 2,703 in Rangpur, 570 in Panchagarh, 993 in Nilphamari, 824 in Lalmonirhat, 872 in Kurigram, 1,036 in Thakurgaon, 3,281 in Dinajpur and 1,119 in Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 64,213 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday night, and of them, 11,398 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 17.75 percent.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,166 with the healing of 65 more people in all eight of the division on Thursday at the recovery rate of 89.19 percent,” Dr. Siddique said.

The average recovery rate of 89.19 percent of COVID-19 patients is currently 5.02 times higher than their infection rate of 17.75 percent in the division.

The 10,166 recovered patients include 2,334 of Rangpur, 520 of Panchagarh, 949 of Nilphamari, 720 of Lalmonirhat, 789 of Kurigram, 749 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 944 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the number of total fatalities remained steady at 205 with no more death reported on Thursday from across the division.

The district-wise break up of the 205 fatalities stands at 46 in Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 11 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The casualty rate among the total infected patients currently stands at about 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,389 COVID-19 infected patients, 100 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,166 patients and 205 deaths while 927 remaining in home isolations in the division.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 275 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 169 others released in the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 77,660 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 73,243 released and 4,417 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the number of daily infections continues declining currently in Rangpur division.

“Every person should wear a mask while remaining outside homes and abide by the health directives of the government to remain safe and prevent further spread of COVID-19 infection,” Dr. Lyzu advised.
