State Minister for Sports mourns death of ASM Faruque

DHAKA, Sept. 17, 2020 (BSS)- State Minister for Youth and Sports Mohammad Zahid Ahsan Russell MP expressed deep shock and grief at the death of former cricketer and former national team manager ASM Faruque who passed away on Wednesday night due to cardiac arrest at the age of 75.

In a message, the State Minister said he sought forgiveness of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the family of ASM Faruque, said a press release today.

Faruque was the captain of traditional Mohammedan Sporting Club and under his leadership Mohammedan won the first title of Dhaka League in 1977-78’s season.

Bangladesh debuted in international cricket in the match against MCC held in Dhaka in 1977 and Faruque was the member of the Bangladesh team.

Faruque had performed various roles with the BCB as an administrator. He was the Bangladesh team manager at the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

In another press release today, officials of Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited expressed deep sadness at the death of Faruque.
