Over 3.38 lakh children get Vitamin A plus capsules in Khulna

KHULNA ,Sept 17, 2020 (BSS) – Khulna Civil Surgeon office has completed all preparations to immunize over 3.38-lakh children aged between six months to 59 months with Vitamin A plus capsules in the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign on September 26.

The programme will continue till October 8 maintaining health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the government.

Khulna Civil Surgeon office disclosed this today at District level Advocacy and Planning meeting held at the conference room of Khulna School Health Clinic to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign-2020 success.

The campaign will be conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with the assistances of UNICEF

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guest with Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr. Sujat Ahmed in the chair.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of Khulna Family Planning Department Abdul Aleem, Deputy Principal Officer of PID M Javed Iqbal, District Primary Education Officer ASM Sirazuddoha, Child Specialist of Khulna General Hospital Dr Md Sharafat Hossain.

Physician of Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services Dr Zakia Alam delivered the key-note paper.

The chief guest said the main goal of the campaign is to maintain the prevalence of night blindness in children less than one per cent through maintaining the high coverage of vitamin A supplementation among under five years children.

The government is working relentlessly to ensure health facilities, he said adding that mothers and child mortality rate has been reduced while percentage of immunization rate has been enhanced with united efforts.

He, however, said everybody should work to make vitamin A plus campaign a total success considering children are the future of our nation.

Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed informed that a large number of volunteers and monitoring teams will provide Vitamin A Plus Capsules at different outreach centres in all nine upazilas including two city corporation area of the district from 8 am to 4 pm from September 26 to October 8.

Like previous years, Vitamin A plus capsules would not be administered at any open places including, bus, launch and Railway stations this year due to COVID 19 pandemic , he said.

“Around 40,520 babies (6-11 months) and 2, 98,346 babies (12-59 months) will be administered with one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Plus blue capsule and one dose of two lakh unit of Vitamin A red capsule each,” he said.
