COVID-19 recovery rate continues to rise in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 17, 2020 (BSS) – The recovery rate of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients continues to rise amid a declining trend in the daily infection rate in the last two weeks bringing some respite to common people in Rangpur division.

“As on Thursday, 89.12 percent COVID-19 patients out of 11,334 infected have recovered against 17.75 percent average infection rate in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The recovery rate continues increasing while daily infection rate declining during the past couple of weeks.

“The number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,101 with the healing of 52 more infected people on Wednesday raising the recovery rate to 89.12 percent across the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 10,101 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,312 of Rangpur, 519 of Panchagarh, 949 of Nilphamari, 714 of Lalmonirhat, 788 of Kurigram, 750 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 909 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 45 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 398 collected samples at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Wednesday raising their total number to 11,334 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 11,334 patients stands at 2,690 in Rangpur, 570 in Panchagarh, 993 in Nilphamari, 818 in Lalmonirhat, 867 in Kurigram, 1,032 in Thakurgaon, 3,247 in Dinajpur and 1,117 Gaibandha districts.

“A total of 63,838 collected samples of Rangpur division have so far been tested till Wednesday, and of them, 11,334 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of over 17.75 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average infection rate of 17.75 percent which is currently 5.02 times less that the recovery rate of 89.12 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 205 in the division with one more death reported from Rangpur on Wednesday.

The district-wise break up of the 205 fatalities stands at 46 in Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 11 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The casualty rate among the total infected patients currently stands at over 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,334 COVID-19 patients, 99 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,101 patients and 205 deaths while 929 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 77,383 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 73,071 released and 4,312 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu the daily coronavirus infection rate is declining while recovery rate consistently rising now in the division.

“The authorities concerned have taken inclusive steps to inspire people in abiding by the health directives to prevent further spread of the deadly virus along with providing improved health services are being provided to COVID-19 patients,” Dr. Lyzu added.
