Passenger trains resume operations at full capacity

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2020 (BSS)-Bangladesh Railway (BR) today resumed operations of passenger trains at full capacity maintaining all health safety guidelines.

“As per our decision, all passenger trains have started operations at full capacity,” BR’s senior Information Officer Shariful Alam told BSS.

BR will now sell half of the total tickets of intercity trains at stations while the rest through online and the mobile app as it has been doing since beginning limited operations of trains on May 31, he said.

All local, mail and commuter train tickets will be sold at the stations, he added.

BR suspended operations of passenger trains on March 24 to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It started resuming operations of trains from May 31.

As part of its move to normalize train operations across the country, BR resumed operation of a total of 218 trains by today. The remaining 144 mail and local trains will resume operations gradually.

As per its plan, the BR started operations of Nazirhat Commuter-1, 2, 5 and 6, local (Chattogram-Dojahari- Chattogram), local (Mohanganj-Mymensingh- Mohanganj), local (Jharia Jhangail-Mymensingh- Jharia Jhangail), Uttarbanga Mail, Kanchan Commuter, Dinajpur Commuter, Burimari Commuter-1 and 2, Kurigrqam Shuttle, Rajbari Express1, 2,3 and 4 and Bhatiapara Express-1 and 2 today.

According to BR, Karnophuli Commuter, Titas Commuter, Turag Express-1,2,3 and 4, Kaliakoir Commuter-1and 2 and local (Narayanganj-Dhaka-Narayanganj resumed operations on September 10.

On September 13, BR resumed operations of Jalalabad Express, Surma Mail, Dhaka/Noakhali Express, Mymensingh Express, Bhawal Express, Dhalewshwari Express, Chandpur Commuter and Noakhali Commuter.
