Rifat murder case judgement on Sept 30

BARGUNA, Sept 16, 2020 (BSS) – A Barguna court today set September 30 to pronounce judgment in a case lodged over murder of Rifat Sharif in 2019.

Barguna District and Sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman set the date as both prosecution and defence concluded their parts of arguments in the case today, public prosecutor Bhuban Chandra Halder told BSS.

Earlier in the day, counsel of accused and Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni produced defence witness to vouch for her innocence. Later the court granted her bail on the bond of her lawyer.

Rifat Sharif was hacked mercilessly in broad daylight in Barguna on June 26, 2019. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Police on July 16 showed his wife Minni arrested in the case.

Police on September 1, 2019, filed two separate charge-sheets, one against 10 adult accused, another against 14 juvenile accused.

The case against the juvenile accused is going on at Barguna Juvenile Court.

Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court on January 1 framed charges in the murder case against Minni, Rakibul Hasan Rifat Faraji, Al Kaiyum alias Rabbi Akond, Mohiminul Islam Sifat, Rejwan Ali Khan alias Tiktok Hridoy, Md Hasan, Md Musa, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md Sagor and Kamrul Islam Saimun.

The court started recording deposition of witnesses in the case on January 8 and examined a total of 76 witnesses on different hearing dates.
