JOYPURHAT, Sept 16, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced a man to capital punishment for killing his wife in Panchbibi upazila of the district in 2016.
District and Session Judge Md Golam Sarwar handed down the verdict to Babul Sarker, 50, an inhabitant of Gazipur district.
According to the prosecution, on December 23 in 2016, Babul Sarker strangled to death his wife Tanjila Khatun at night in his Radhanagar area’s residence under Panchbibi upazila.
Following the murder Tanjila’s sister Toihida Khatun filed a case with Panhcbibi Thana.
On May 22 in 2017, police pressed the charge-sheet accusing Babul Sarker.
Testifying witnesses and evidence, the court ordered the verdict in presence of Babul Sarker and fined him Taka 20000, in default he would be jailed six months more.
