Policies for placing billboards must be followed: DNCC Mayor

DHAKA, Sept 15, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam today said billboards and signboards should be set up according to the rule.

“Billboards are not illegal in the city. You can install billboards, but you need permission from the authorities concerned and follow the rules,” he said.

The mayor told reporters while removing illegal billboards and signboards at Gulshan 2 in the capital today, said a release.

“There are policies for placing billboards, signboards. When applying these, the policy must be followed. We have published mass releases on this subject, we have informed through press releases in the media, news has been published in every media, even miking has been done. Many have received approval by submitting the prescribed fee in the last two days,” he said.

“People want to be able to walk on the sidewalk without any hindrance,” he said. In view of this, I am auctioning off various items lying illegally on the sidewalk and removing signboards, billboards etc. I would request the people to let us know. Some of them leave construction materials on sidewalks and roads.,” he added.

The mayor said the campaign would continue. Besides, eviction of illegal goods kept on footpaths and roads will continue.

About 150 illegal signboards and billboards were removed at Gulshan No. 2 today under the leadership of Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Magistrate Abdul Hamid Miah, said a press release.

The eviction drive was carried out on Banani Road No. 11 under the leadership of Zone-7 Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed. About a hundred signboards and billboards were removed during this time. He also imposed a total fine of Tk 60,000 on several companies for illegally occupying roads and sidewalks and obstructing the movement of people.

Besides, a total of 52 signboards, billboards etc. were removed in Pragati Sarani under the direction of Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Sajia Afrin. Besides, illegal possession of goods on footpaths and roads was sold at auction at a price of Tk 6,600 and a fine of Tk 44,000 was imposed in 9 cases.

Besides, some organizations have approved signboards and billboards by depositing around Tk 1 crore 10 lakh in DNCC in the last 3 days.

During the campaign, among others, the chief executive officer of the DNCC. Selim Reza, Chief Property Officer Mozammel Haque and other senior officials were present.
