Number of recovered COVID-19 patients crosses 9,900-mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 15, 2020 (BSS) – The number of recovered coronavirus (COVID-19) patients has crossed the 9,900-mark in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining and recovery rate increasing consistently in recent weeks.

Health officials said 98 more COVID-19 patients recovered on Monday in all eight districts of the division raising their number to 9,901 against a total of 11,264 infected people.

“The average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients presently stands at about 87.90 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 9,901 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,267 of Rangpur, 513 of Panchagarh, 938 of Nilphamari, 664 of Lalmonirhat, 773 of Kurigram, 747 of Thakurgaon, 3,124 of Dinajpur and 875 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 29 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 188 collected samples of Rangpur division at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur on Monday raising the number of infected patients to 11,264 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,264 patients stands at 2,670 in Rangpur, 557 in Panchagarh, 993 in Nilphamari, 807 in Lalmonirhat, 861 in Kurigram, 1,032 in Thakurgaon, 3,240 in Dinajpur and 1,104 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

“A total of 63,138 collected samples of Rangpur division till Monday night, and of them, 11,264 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 17.84 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 17.84 percent which is 4.92 times less that the recovery rate of 87.90 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities rose to 204 in Rangpur division with one more death reported from Panchagarh on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 204 fatalities stands at 45 in Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 11 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 11,264 infected patients currently stands at over 1.81 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,264 COVID-19 infected patients, 93 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,901 patients and 204 deaths while 1,066 remaining in home isolations.

Since the beginning, a total of 77,047 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, and among them, 71,944 have so far been released and 5,103 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

“We are providing health services to COVID-19 patients at government hospitals and other facilities with a capacity of 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff across Rangpur division,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today told BSS that the infection rate continues to decline consistently in recent weeks in the division.

“Improved health services are being provided to the infected patients at government hospitals and other facilities alog with inspiring the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection in the division,” he added.
