28 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 14, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-eight more people were tested positive for coronavirus today (COVID-19) in Rangpur division at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) here.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the rate of daily COVID-19 infection continues to decline for the 13 consecutive day in the division.

“After testing 188 samples of suspected patients, 28 of them were detected with COVID -19 today,” he said.

“The 28 new infected patients include 15 of Rangpur, four of Gaibandha, six of Kurigram and three of Lalmonirhat district,” Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, testing of samples remained suspended for the thirteenth consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to technical problems.

Experts from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka are currently conducting necessary repairs of the PCR machine and testing systems at the laboratory.

“We will conduct test-run of the PCR machine as soon as possible on successful completion of repairing works to resume the process of testing samples,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain.

Talking to BSS at 6:50 pm, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 11,263 in the division as 28 fresh cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of detected COVID -19 cases now stands at 2,670 in Rangpur, 557 in Panchagarh, 993 in Nilphamari, 807 in Lalmonirhat, 861 in Kurigram, 1,032 in Thakurgaon, 3,240 in Dinajpur and 1,103 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
