Marriage registrar jailed in Lalmonirhat
RANGPUR, Sept 14, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court foiled a child marriage and sentenced a marriage registrar of Dolgram union in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Sunday night.
Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Rabiul Hasan told reporters that he led the mobile court with police forces at village Barodighir Par of the union after getting secret information about a progressing child marriage.
Reaching there, the mobile court arrested marriage register Kazi Abu Hanif and bridegroom for arranging the marriage of a female student, 14, of class nine of the village with the bridegroom, also a student of a local Kawmi Madrasha.
Later, the mobile court foiled the child marriage and sentenced marriage register Kazi Abu Hanif to six month jail term without labour and fined the bridegroom Taka 5,000 in presence of local villagers.
Marriage register Kazi Abu Hanif is son of Majibar Rahman of village Patwari in Dolgram union and licensed Muslim marriage register for the same union.
