Mobile court fines three shops Tk 1.60 in Birampur

RANGPUR, Sept 13, 2020 (BSS) – A mobile court fined owners of three groceries Taka 1.60 lakh for storing and selling sex-stimulating syrup at Puraton Bazar in Birampur municipality of Dinajpur district on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Parimal Kumar Sarker led the mobile court on the basis of public allegations with assistance of police forces.

The mobile court conducted raids at three grocery shops at the Bazar and seized 2,000 bottles of sex-stimulating syrup and vermicelli without approval of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution.

The court fined owners of Shafikul Variety Store Taka 60,000, Farhad Store Taka 50,000 and Sarafat Store Taka 50,000, seized the contraband and unauthorized vermicelli from the groceries and destroyed those at a nearby open area.

Besides, the mobile court sealed off a Godown of another grocery owner in his absence.

Talking to local reporters, the UNO said that similar raids would continue across Birampur upazila to stop storing, marketing and supply of adulterated foodstuffs, banned drugs and narcotics substances and unauthorized products in the future.
