COVID-19 cases hit 20,611 in Khulna division, 16,256 patients recover

KHULNA, Sept 12, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 100 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients reached 20,611 while 16,256 patients have recovered from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 78.87 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 20,611 with 100 new positive cases detected after testing 282 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till today noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 26 were detected in Jashore followed by 19 in Khulna, 16 in Kushtia, 13 in Satkhira, nine in Chuadanga, five each in Bagerhat and Jhenidah, three each in Meherpur and Magura and one in Narail districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,054 in Khulna, 3,646 in Jashore, 3,030 in Kushtia, 1,799 in Jhenaidah, 1,346 in Chuadanga, 1,262 in Narail, 1,077 in Satkhira, 948 in Bagerhat, 873 in Magura and 576 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 20,611 coronavirus infected persons, 2,169 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 16,256 have recovered and 358 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 358 in the division with two more deaths – one in Khulna and one in Meherpur districts – reported on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 93 in Khulna, 64 in Kushtia, 42 in Jashore, 31 in Chuadanga, 31 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 18 in Narail and 14 in Meherpur under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 20,611COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 91 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 121 others were released in all 10 districts of the division in the last 24 hours till 12noon today.

A total of 58,219 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 55,996 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,169 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
