Number of recovered COVID-19 patients cross 9,600 in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 12, 2020 (BSS) – The number of recovered coronavirus (COVID-
19) patients has crossed the 9,600 mark in Rangpur division where the daily
infection rate continues declining and recovery rate increasing in recent
weeks.

Health officials said 61 more COVID-19 patients recovered on Friday in all
eight districts raising the number to 9,609 against a total of 11,132
infected people in the division.

“The average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients presently stands at about
86.32 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 9,609 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,199 of Rangpur, 496 of
Panchagarh, 930 of Nilphamari, 645 of Lalmonirhat, 755 of Kurigram, 659 of
Thakurgaon, 3,085 of Dinajpur and 840 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 30 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 188
samples at the COVID-19 laboratory in Rangpur on Friday raising the number of
infected patients to 11,132 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the total infected patients now stands at
2,630 in Rangpur, 542 in Panchagarh, 980 in Nilphamari, 795 in Lalmonirhat,
852 in Kurigram, 1,018 in Thakurgaon, 3,227 in Dinajpur and 1,088 Gaibandha.

“Since the beginning, we’ve tested a total of 62,073 collected samples till
Sunday night, and of them, 11,132 were found COVID-19 positive with an
infection rate of 17.93 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average of COVID-19 infection rate stands at 17.93 percent which is
4.81 times less that the recovery rate of 86.32 percent in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed
said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 200 in Rangpur
division while no more death cases were reported from anywhere on Friday.

The district-wise break-up of the 200 fatalities stands at 43 in Rangpur,
70 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, 20 in Nilphamari, 14 in Kurigram, 20 in
Thakurgaon, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The casualty rate among all 11,132 COVID-19 positive cases stands at 1.79
percent in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Among the total 11,132 COVID-19 infected patients, 106 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,609
patients and 200 deaths while 1,217 remaining in home isolations.

A total of 76,567 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the
COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, and among them, 71,279 have so far
been released and 5,288 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of
Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to
provide treatments to the infected patients.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said
the infection rate continues to decline consistently in recent weeks in the
division.

“Inclusive steps have been taken to provide improved health services to the
infected patients and inspire the people in abiding by the health directives
to prevent COVID-19 spread in Rangpur division,” he added.
