Jabbar for effective use of haor resources
DHAKA, July 1, 2018 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar today said effective initiatives to utilize enormous natural resources in country’s haor regions can create a new milestone in the country’s economic development.
“Proper policies should be formulated for taking required steps for exploring mineral resources, including gas, building necessary infrastructures for tourism and boosting the fisheries sector,” he said, addressing a roundtable discussion in the city.
Oxfam, Pratik and Center for Natural Resources Studies organized the discussion titled ‘Challenges of Sustainable Livelihood of Haor Communities’ at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city’s Shegunbagicha area, said an official release.
Mustafa Jabbar emphasized on proper utilization of rain water accumulated in haor regions and protecting biodiversity.
Bangladesh achieved unprecedented successes under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister said, adding that haor regions will also not lag behind as the premier expressed her firmness to integrate the regions with the mainstream of development.
He urged the authorities concerned to take effective measures to implement the haor development initiatives.
