COVID-19 cases hit 20,511 in Khulna division, 16,152 cured

KHULNA, Sept 11, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 131 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 20,511 as 16,152 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 78.75 percent in the division,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter said, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 20,511 with 131 new positive cases were reported after testing 282 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 35 were detected in Khulna followed by 25 in Kushtia, 21 in Jashore, 17 in Jhenidah, 14 in Chuadanga, 10 in Bagerhat, six in Magura, five in Meherpur and four in Narail districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,035 are in Khulna, 3,620 in Jashore, 3,014 in Kushtia, 1,794 in Jhenaidah, 1,337 in Chuadanga, 1,261 in Narail, 1,064 in Satkhira, 943 in Bagerhat, 870 in Magura and 573 in Meherpur, the health official said.

“Among the total 20,511 coronavirus infected persons, 2,158 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 16,152 have recovered and 356 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 356 in the division while two more new death cases were reported from Jhenidah and Narail districts on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 92 in Khulna, 64 in Kushtia, 42 in Jashore, 31 in Chuadanga, 31 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 18 in Narail and 13 in Meherpur under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 20,511 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 108 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 190 others were released in all 10 districts of the division during the same period till 12noon today.

A total of 58,128 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 55,875 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,144 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
