24 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 10, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-four more people were tested positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division today at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the rate of daily COVID-19 infections continues to
reduce in recent weeks in the division.

“The 24 new infected cases were reported after diagnosing 188
samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram
districts at the infection rate of only 12.76 percent in the
laboratory in Rangpur city,” he said.

“The 24 patients include 14 of Rangpur, three of Gaibandha, two of
Kurigram and five of Lalmonirhat districts,” Dr. Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, the testing of samples remained suspended for the eighth
consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim
Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to
technical problems.

Talking to BSS, newly appointed Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed
Nazir Hossain said experts from the IEDCR in Dhaka are likely to come
for repairing the PCR machine at the laboratory to resume the process
of testing samples as soon as possible.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients rose to 11,066 in the division as 24 new cases of four
districts were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,066 patients stands at 2,617
in Rangpur, 540 in Panchagarh, 974 in Nilphamari, 791 in Lalmonirhat,
845 in Kurigram, 1,009 in Thakurgaon, 3,209 in Dinajpur and 1,082
Gaibandha districts,” he added.
