COVID-19 cases hit 20,380, recovery 15,965 in Khulna.

KHULNA, Sept 10, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 123 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Wednesday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 20,380.

“A total of 15,965 have been cured from the lethal virus infection and the recovery rate now stands at 78.33 percent,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that 123 new positive cases were reported after testing 282 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 35 were detected in Jashore followed by 29 in Khulna, 19 in Kushtia, 11 in Jhenidah, 11 in Chuadanga, seven in Magura, five each in Meherpur and Narail and one in Bagerhat districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,006 in Khulna, 3,599 in Jashore, 2,989 in Kushtia, 1,777 in Jhenaidah, 1,323 in Chuadanga, 1,257in Narail, 1,064 in Satkhira, 933 in Bagerhat, 864 in Magura and 568 in Meherpur, she added.

“Of the total 20,380 coronavirus infected persons, 2,144 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 15,965 have recovered and 354 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 354 in the division with two more deaths from one in Khulna and one in Meherpur districts reported on Wednesday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 92 in Khulna, 64 in Kushtia, 42 in Jashore, 31 in Chuadanga, 30 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 17 in Narail and 13 in Meherpur under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 20,380 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 156 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 233 others were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 58,020 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 55,685 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,144 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
