85.75pc COVID-19 patients recover in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 10, 2020 (BSS) – More than 85.75 percent of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients have, so far, recovered since the beginning in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“A total of 9,469 COVID-19 patients out of 11,042 infected people have so far recovered at the rate of 85.75 percent in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The recovery rate continues increasing following improved treatments being provided to the patients in the division where a falling trend in the daily infection rate continues in recent weeks.

“More 198 COVID-19 infected patients recovered on Wednesday alone across the division raising their number to 9,469 people,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 9,469 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,173 of Rangpur, 493 of Panchagarh, 918 of Nilphamari, 638 of Lalmonirhat, 751 of Kurigram, 642 of Thakurgaon, 3,014 of Dinajpur and 840 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 19 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur on Wednesday raising their total number to 11,042 in the division.
The district-wise break up of the 11,042 patients stands at 2,603 in Rangpur, 540 in Panchagarh, 974 in Nilphamari, 786 in Lalmonirhat, 842 in Kurigram, 1,009 in Thakurgaon, 3,209 in Dinajpur and 1,079 Gaibandha districts.

“We have so far tested 61,249 collected samples of Rangpur division till Wednesday night, and of them, 11,042 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 18.02 per cent,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 18.02 percent which is 4.75 times less that the recovery rate of 85.75 percent now in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 197 with no more deaths reported from the division on Wednesday.

“The district-wise break up of the 197 fatalities stands at 42 in Rangpur, 70 in Dinajpur, 20 in Thakurgaon, 19 in Nilphamari, 14 in Gaibandha, 13 in Kurigram, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts,” he said.

Among the total 11,042 COVID-19 patients, 101 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,469 patients and 197 deaths while 1,275 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 76,230 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 70,865 released and 5,365 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the daily infection rate continues to decline while the recovery rate increases in recent weeks in the division.

“We have taken various inclusive steps to provide improved health services to the infected patients and inspire the people in abiding by the health directives of the government to prevent COVID-19 spread in Rangpur division,” he added.
