COVID-19 cases hit 20,257 in Khulna division, 15,776 cured

KHULNA, Sept 9, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 101 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Tuesday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 20,257 as 15,776 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 77.87 percent in the division,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter said, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 20,257 with 101 new positive cases were reported after testing 282 samples at Khulna’s respective COVID-19 laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 28 were detected in Kustia followed by 20 in Jashore, 12 Narail, 11 in Jhenidah, 10 in Khulna, eight in Magura, seven in Chuadanga and three in Meherpur and one each in Bagerhat and Satkhira districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 5,977 are in Khulna, 3,564 in Jashore, 2,970 in Kushtia, 1,766 in Jhenaidah, 1,312 in Chuadanga, 1,252 in Narail, 1,064 in Satkhira, 932 in Bagerhat, 857 in Magura and 563 in Meherpur, she said.

“Among the total 20,257 coronavirus infected persons, 2,129 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 15,776 have recovered and 352 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,”the health official continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 352 in the division with three more deaths reported from two in Khulna and one in Jashore districts on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 91 in Khulna, 64 in Kushtia, 42 in Jashore, 31 in Chuadanga, 30 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 17 in Narail and 12 in Meherpur under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 20,257 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 154 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 193 others were released in all 10 districts of the division during the same period till 12noon today.

A total of 57,864 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 55,452 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,129 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
