COVID-19 cases in Rangpur division reach 11,023

RANGPUR, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases reached 11,023 in Rangpur division as 93 new patients were reported after testing 796 samples on Tuesday at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dhaka.

“The daily infection rate among the 796 tested samples of the division stood at 11.68 percent on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The daily COVID-19 infection continues declining in the division in recent weeks where a limited scale community transmission of the virus still continues at places.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,023 patients stands at 2,596 in Rangpur, 540 in Panchagarh, 974 in Nilphamari, 782 in Lalmonirhat, 841 in Kurigram, 1,009 in Thakurgaon, 3,209 in Dinajpur and 1,072 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 61,061 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Tuesday night, and of them, 11,023 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 18.05 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients continues increasing in recent weeks and sharply rose to 9,271 with the healing of 83 more people on Tuesday. The recovery rate currently stands at 84.12 percent in the division,” he said.

The 9,271 recovered patients include 2,152 of Rangpur, 883 of Panchagarh, 896 of Nilphamari, 592 of Lalmonirhat, 751 of Kurigram, 632 of Thakurgaon, 2,951 of Dinajpur and 814 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan said the number of total fatalities currently stands at 196 in the division with five more deaths reported from Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari districts on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 196 fatalities stands at 41 in Rangpur, 63 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, 19 in Nilphamari, 13 in Kurigram, 21 in Thakurgaon, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among all 11,023 COVID-19 infected patients currently stands at 1.77 percent in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Among the total 11,023 COVID-19 patients, 104 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,271 patients and 196 deaths while 1,452 remaining in home isolations in the division.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 204 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 147 others released in the division.

A total of 76,063 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 70,489 released and 5,574 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.

Currently, the government hospitals and health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the situation in the division.

“We have a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients in the division,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu called for properly abiding by health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread.
