More 37 tests positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 8, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-seven more people were tested positive for coronavirus today at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) COVID-19 laboratory in the city.

Officials said testing of samples remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day today at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) COVID-19 laboratory in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to technical problems.

Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said while talking to BSS tonight, experts are repairing the PCR machine at the laboratory where the testing process of samples is likely to resume from tomorrow or the day after.

Meanwhile, the 37 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts.

“Among the 37 patients, 14 of Rangpur, five of Gaibandha, 10 of Kurigram and eight of Lalmonirhat districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Prof Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS at 7:45 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 10,968 in the division as 37 new cases of five districts were reported today.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 10,968 patients now stands at 2,596 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 782 in Lalmonirhat, 843 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,188 in Dinajpur and 1,072 in Gaibandha,” he added.
