COVID-19 cases hit 20,156 in Khulna, 15,493 cured

KHULNA, Sept 8, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 128 more positive cases
in all ten districts of the division, the total number of COVID-19 infected
patients now hit 20,156in the last 24 hours ending this noon.

“A total of 15,493 has been cured from the lethal virus infection and
the recovery rate now stands at 76.86 percent,” Assistant Director (Health)
for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS.

One hundred and twenty six new positive cases were reported after
testing 282 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in the division
in the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 32 were detected in Khulna,
32 in Jashore, 25 in Kushtia, 13 in Jhenaidah, eight in Narail, seven in
Chuadanga, four in Satkhira, three in Magura and two each in Bagerhat and
Meherpur districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients
now stands at 5,967 in Khulna, 3,544 in Jashore, 2,942 in Kushtia, 1,755 in
Jhenaidah, 1,305 in Chuadanga, 1,240 in Narail, 1,063 in Satkhira, 931 in
Bagerhat, 849 in Magura and 560 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 20,156 coronavirus infected persons, 2,120 are
undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 15,493 have
recovered and 349 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation
at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana
said the number of total fatalities rose to 349 in the division with seven
more deaths from three in Khulna one each in Bagerhat, Jashore, Satkhira and
Jhenaidah districts.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 89 in Khulna,
64 in Kushtia, 41 in Jashore, 31 in Chuadanga, 30 in Jhenaidah, 30 in
Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 13 in Magura, 12 in Meherpur and 17 in Narail.

“The average casualty rate among all 20,156 COVID-19 positive cases now
stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 144 more people have been sent to home and
institutional quarantine afresh while 209 others were released in all ten
districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12noon today.

A total of 57,710 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since
March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 55,259 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance
certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and
2,120 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the
division.

Dr. Rasheda Sultana added that inclusive steps have been taken to
provide improved health services to the infected patients and inspire the
people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread.
