COVID-19 cases cross 10,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 8, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 10,900 mark this morning in Rangpur division where the daily number of infections continues showing a moderately declining trend in recent days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 10,931 with 35 more infections reported after testing 220 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dhaka on Monday, ” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

However, testing of collected samples remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College in Dinajpur due to technical problems.

“Currently, the district-wise break up of the 10,931 patients stands at 2,582 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 774 in Lalmonirhat, 833 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,188 in Dinajpur and 1,067 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the daily number of recovered COVID-19 patients continues increasing and rose to 9,184 with the recovery of 133 more infected people on Monday in the division.

“The average recovery rate among the total 10,931 infected patients stands at 84.01 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

The 9,184 recovered patients include 2,131 of Rangpur, 483 of Panchagarh, 893 of Nilphamari, 592 of Lalmonirhat, 747 of Kurigram, 630 of Thakurgaon, 2,924 of Dinajpur and 784 of Gaibandha districts.

With one more death reported from Rangpur on Monday, the total number of fatalities rose to 191 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 191 fatalities stands at 41 in Rangpur, 66 in Dinajpur, 20 in Thakurgaon, 18 in Nilphamari, 14 in Gaibandha, 13 in Kurigram, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate among the total 10,931 infected patients currently stands at over 1.74 percent in the division.

“Sine the beginning, we have tested a total of 60,270 collected samples of Rangpur division till Monday, and of them, 10,931 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 18.13 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said 167 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 202 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

“Among the total 10,931 COVID-19 patients, 102 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 9,184 patients and 191 deaths while 1,454 remaining in home isolations,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 75,834 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 70,342 released and 5,492 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the number of daily infections continues declining in recent weeks in the division.

“The people should properly abide by the health directives, wear masks while remaining outside of homes and maintain physical distance to prevent further spread of COVID-19 infections,” Dr. Lyzu added.
