Domingo in Dhaka as Gibson forced to change travel plan

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2020 (BSS)—Bangladesh national cricket team head coach Russell Domingo reached Dhaka on Sunday night ahead of the Tigers tour of Sri Lanka this month.

Accompanied by his compatriot and Bangladesh’s fielding coach Ryan Cook, the South African arrived at 11:45 pm by an Emirates flight.
Domingo and Cook were earlier scheduled to arrive here on Sept 2, but their travel schedule was changed following the cancellation of flight on that day.

Like them, fast bowling coach Ottis Gibson also has to change travel plans due to the cancellation of scheduled flights. Gibson who was due to be in Bangladesh on Monday, will now reach on Tuesday, the BCB Cricket Operations officials said.

However Domingo and Cook will go for COVID-19 Tests very soon and will be in 14-day quarantine as per government rules before joining the job with the Bangladesh Cricket team.

Bangladesh team physio Julian Calfato and trainer Nick Lee are already in the capital.

Spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori and newly appointed batting consultant Craig McMillan will join the Bangladesh team in Sri Lanka directly.

Bangladesh will leave the country for a three-match Test series in Sri Lanka on September 27 and before that they will have a short practice camp in Dhaka. They will start their main practice camp in Sri Lanka, Akram informed.

The practice camp for the Sri Lanka tour will start on September 21. However Domingo and co’s quarantine period will end on September 20.

The Sri Lanka-bound Bangladesh team is likely to be of 23 members after which a 15-member final squad will be announced following a month-long training camp in the Island nation.

The first match of a three-match Test series between two countries is on October 24.
