Home Ministry’s probe body submits report on Sinha murder

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2020 (BSS) – The investigation body formed by the Home Ministry submitted its report today over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

The committee chief Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman handed over the report to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his ministry’s conference room.

“As the matter is under judiciary process, we cannot say any details of the report. If the court wants, we will hand over the report to it,” the home minister told reporters.

Replying to a question he said, “We are yet to see what is in the report. Now our secretary will analyze it.”

Kamal said the investigation is going on as per the court directives. “That’s why we can’t say anything publicly. We will inform the court about this. If required, the court will take the report officially from us. It is the jurisdiction of the court,” he added.

Regarding the incident, the minister said, “Major Sinha’s murder is a tragic incident. We don’t want recurrence of such incident.”

Responding to another question, he said, there is a wonderful relation between the police and the army. After the incident, the chiefs of the two forces held a joint press conference and gave their statements, he added.

The committee chief said they worked tirelessly to submit the investigation report. “I have taken statements from 68 people involved in the incident,” he said, adding that the police are working tirelessly to maintain law and order.

On the night of July 31, Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was shot dead at the Shamlapur check post on Marine Drive in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.

The Home Ministry formed the committee on August 1 to look into the incident.

On August 3, the investigation committee started its formal work. The committee was asked to submit the investigation report within seven working days with clear opinion through analyzing the reason, source and other details including what to do to avoid such incidents in future.

On September 3, the investigation team interrogated suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das.
