Pranab Mukherjee’s unique role during liberation war recalled

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 5, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League presidium member and
former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP, said today that former
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee had played a unique role during the
great liberation war of Bangladesh.

He was very close to the Bangabandhu family and the people of
Bangladesh as after independent, he stood beside the country during
several crises.

Mosharraf stated these while speaking as the chief guest at a
memorial meeting of Pranab Mukherjee held at the S Rahman Auditorium
of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) here this morning.

CPC President Alhaj Ali Abbas presided over the meeting while its
General Secretary Farid Uddin Chowdhury gave the welcome address,
conducted by its Joint Secretary Nazrul Islam.

“Pranab Mukherjee had lent all possible assistance to Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana during their exile in India after the
assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman and most of his family members on August 15 in 1975,” Engineer
Mosharraf Hossain said.

Quoting from Pranab Mukherjee’s autobiography, he said that when the
then army chief of Bangladesh visited India in 2008, Pranab Mukherjee
had also requested him to release the political leaders, including
Sheikh Hasina.
