More 39 positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 5, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-nine more people were tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) today at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

Officials said testing of samples remained suspended for the third consecutive day today at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur of Rangpur division due to technical problems.

Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker said testing of samples would resume at the laboratory possibly within the next couple of days after completion of necessary repairs.

Meanwhile, the 39 new infected cases were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples collected from Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur city.

“The 39 patients include 19 of Rangpur, eight each of Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha and four of Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 10,855 in the division as 439 new cases of five districts were reported today.

“The district-wise breakup of the 10,855 patients stands at 2,558 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 765 in Lalmonirhat, 828 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,167 in Dinajpur and 1,050 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
