COVID-19 cases cross 10,800 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 5, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive
cases crossed 10,800 mark this morning in Rangpur division where daily number
of infections continues showing a moderately declining trend in the recent
days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 10,816 with 43 more infections
reported after testing 188 samples on Friday at the COVID-19 laboratory in
Rangpur,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

However, testing of collected samples remained suspended for the third
consecutive day today at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) COVID-19
laboratory in Dinajpur under Rangpur division due to technical problems.

The testing process of collected samples is expected to resume at the
laboratory in Dinajpur within the next couple of days after completion of
necessary repairs.

“Currently, the district-wise break-up of the 10,816 patients stands at
2,539 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 757 in Lalmonirhat,
824 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,167 in Dinajpur and 1,042 Gaibandha,”
Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the daily number of recovered patients continues increasing and
rose to 8,664 with the recovery of 15 more infected people on Friday in the
division.

“The average recovery rate among the total 10,728 infected patients now
stands at 80.10 percent in Rangpur division,” he continued.

Among the 8,664 recovered patients, 2,066 of Rangpur, 454 of Panchagarh,
868 of Nilphamari, 565 of Lalmonirhat, 714 of Kurigram, 596 of Thakurgaon,
2,689 of Dinajpur and 712 of Gaibandha districts.

With one more death reported from Lalmonirhat on Friday, the total number
of fatalities rose to 188 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities stands at 40 in Rangpur,
64 in Dinajpur, 20 in Thakurgaon, 18 in Nilphamari, 14 in Gaibandha, 13 in
Kurigram, 10 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate among the total 10,728 infected patients
currently stands at over 1.73 percent in the division.

“Since the beginning, we’ve tested a total of 59,592 collected samples of
Rangpur division till Friday, and of them, 10,816 were found COVID-19
positive with an infection rate of 18.15 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui further said.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed
said 158 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 213
others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

“Among the total 10,816 COVID-19 patients, 404 are undergoing treatments at
isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 8,664 patients and
188 deaths while 1,560 remaining in home isolations,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 75,375 people of the division were put in
quarantines, and of them, 69,701 released and 5,674 are currently remaining
in home or institutional quarantines.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said
the number of daily infections continues showing a declining trend in the
division.

He called upon the people to sincerely abide by health directives of the
government, to wear masks while remaining outside of homes and maintain
physical distance for their own safety and preventing further spread of
COVID-19 infections.
