COVID-19 cases hit 19,610 in Khulna division, 14,786 cured

KHULNA, Sept 4, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 135 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 19,610 as 14,786 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 75.40 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 19,610 with 135 new positive cases were reported after testing 282 samples in the last 24 hours till this noon at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in the division.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 40 were detected in Jashore followed by 30 in Khulna, 20 in Kushtia, 13 in Satkhira, nine in Jhenaidah, seven in Magura, six in Chuadanga, five in Bagerhat, four in Narail and one in Meherpur districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 5,820 are in Khulna, 3,416 in Jashore, 2,851 in Kushtia, 1,697 in Jhenaidah, 1,284 in Chuadanga, 1,209 in Narail, 1,049 in Satkhira, 912 in Bagerhat, 828 in Magura and 544 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 19,610 coronavirus infected persons, 2,061 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 14,786 have recovered and 333 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities rose to 333 in the division with two more death cases reported from Kushtia district on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now remain same at 84 in Khulna, 64 in Kushtia, 39 in Jashore, 30 in Chuadanga, 27 in Jhenaidah, 28 in Satkhira, 21 in Bagerhat, 12 in Magura, 12 in Meherpur and 16 in Narail under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 19,610 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.69 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 158 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 134 others were released in all 10 districts of the division over the past 24 hours till 12noon today.

A total of 57,031 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 54,287 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,744 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.

Utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing as these are being adjudged as important means of containing the community transmission of the virus, Dr. Rasheda added.
