Editor, freedom fighter Batul passes away in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 3, 2020 (BSS) – Freedom fighter, former lawmaker, journalist and Editor of the Dainik Dabanol Khondker Golam Mostafa Batul died of old age complications at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at noon on Thursday.

He was 78.

He is survived by wife, two sons, host of relatives, admirers and fellow freedom fighters and journalists and well-wishers.

Batul had been publishing a newspaper titled ‘The Ronangon’ during the War of Liberation from India opposite to Lalmonirhat border focusing on the successes achieved by freedom fighters in different battles against the Pakistani occupation army.

He was General Secretary of Press Club, Rangpur (PCR) and edited and published the Dainik Dabanol from Rangpur till his last breath.

The news of his death cast a pall of gloom in the socio-cultural, political and professional and every arena of Rangpur.

His body was brought to his Mulatol residence after his death and later, to PCR premises where his fellow journalists, freedom fighters, politicians, socio-cultural activists and civil society members paid their last respect.

National flag was put and floral wreaths were placed on his coffin by dozens of organisations, including the District Muktijoddha Sangsad, political parties, socio-cultural, professional and other organisations to pay due respect to the heroic son of the soil.

His Namaj-E-Janaza was held on Keramotia Jam-Mosque premises in the city after the Asr prayers with participation of hundreds of people.

A smart contingent of police forces gave a guard of honour and bugle played the last post before the Namaz-E-Janaza.

Later, he was buried at the place specially reserved for freedom fighters in Munshipara Graveyard with full state honour this afternoon.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, former District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, General Secretary of city BNP Shahidul Islam Miju, leaders of AL, BNP, Jatiya Party, PCR President Rashid Babu, its General Secretary Rafique Sarker, government officials and renowned personalities and freedom fighters participated in the Janaza.

They expressed their profound shock at the death of Khondker Golam Mostafa Batul and condoled the death, conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
