COVID-19 cases exceed 10,700 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 3, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded the 10,700 mark this morning in Rangpur division where the daily number of infections remains mostly steady in the past few days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 10,728 with 99 more infections reported after testing 470 samples on Wednesday at two laboratories in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break up of the total 10,728 patients now stands at 2,505 in Rangpur, 537 in Panchagarh, 958 in Nilphamari, 734 in Lalmonirhat, 811 in Kurigram, 992 in Thakurgaon, 3,167 in Dinajpur and 1,024 Gaibandha districts.

Along with the steady rise in the number of daily infections, the figure of recovered COVID-19 patients continues increasing daily and rose to 8,561 with the recovery of 153 more infected people on Sunday in the division.

“The average recovery rate among the total 10,728 infected patients stands at 79.80 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

The 8,561 recovered patients include 2,034 of Rangpur, 454 of Panchagarh, 851 of Nilphamari, 555 of Lalmonirhat, 709 of Kurigram, 592 of Thakurgaon, 2,654 of Dinajpur and 712 of Gaibandha districts.

With four more deaths reported from four districts on Wednesday, the total number of fatalities rose to 185 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 185 fatalities stands at 40 in Rangpur, 63 in Dinajpur, 19 in Thakurgaon, 18 in Nilphamari, 14 in Gaibandha, 13 in Kurigram, 10 in Panchagarh and eight in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate among the total 10,728 infected patients currently stands at 1.72 percent in the division.

“Sine the beginning, we have tested a total of 59,215 collected samples of Rangpur division till Wednesday night, and of them, 10,728 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 18.11 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said 354 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 462 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

“Among the total 10,728 COVID-19 patients, 400 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 8,561 patients and 185 deaths while 1,582 remaining in home isolations,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 74,955 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 69,293 released and 5,662 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

“The government hospitals and health services providing facilities currently have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the coronavirus infected patients in the division,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said a steady situation prevails now in the number of daily infections predicting a falling trend in coming days.

“All people should abide by health directives of the government, wear masks while remaining outside and maintain physical distance for their own safety and preventing further community transmission of COVID-19 infections,” he suggested.
