Hearing of graft case against DIG Mizan, Basir adjourned till Sept 16

DHAKA, Sept 02, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka Special Judge Court 4 today adjourned till September 16 the hearing of a graft case against suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and suspended ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir.

Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of the court passed the order after examining two prosecution witnesses in the case.

The defence today concluded cross-examining first prosecution witness and the investigation officer (IO) of the case Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya. After than recording officer of the case ACC assistant director Abdul Wadud testified at the court and was cross-examined by the defence afterwards.

The same court on March 18 framed charges in the case against the two accused.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes on February 9 accepted the charge-sheet and transferred the case for further proceedings to Dhaka Special Judge Court 4.

ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya on January 19 filed the charge-sheet against the duo for allegedly leaking information and taking bribes. The anti-graft body on July 16, 2019, filed the case with its Dhaka district coordination office 1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

Both the officials were suspended from their respected agencies after the allegations of taking and giving bribes were lodged against them.

Mizanur leaked a couple audio clips, saying he has given Taka forty lakh as bribe to Khandaker Enamul Basir to suppress the graft allegations brought against him.
