8,408 COVID-19 patients heal in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 2, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 8,408 coronavirus (COVID-19) patients healed with recovery rate of 79.10 percent till Wednesday morning in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the recovery rate continues increasing following improved treatments being provided to the patients amid a steady trend in the daily infection rate in recent weeks in the division.

“The number of recovered COVID-19 patients stands at 8,408 with the healing of 168 more infected people till this morning in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 8,408 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,008 of Rangpur, 447 of Panchagarh, 838 of Nilphamari, 546 of Lalmonirhat, 696 of Kurigram, 573 of Thakurgaon, 2,617 of Dinajpur and 683 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, 199 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 984 collected samples of Rangpur division at three COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Dhaka on Tuesday raising their total number to 10,629 in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the total 10,629 patients currently stands at 2,486 in Rangpur, 530 in Panchagarh, 946 in Nilphamari, 726 in Lalmonirhat, 811 in Kurigram, 978 in Thakurgaon, 3,135 in Dinajpur and 1,017 Gaibandha of the division.
“We have tested a total of 58,745 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday night, and of them, 10,629 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of over 18.09 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 18.09 percent which is 4.37 times less than the recovery rate of 79.10 percent.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 181 with no more death was reported from anywhere in Rangpur division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the 181 fatalities stands at 329 in Rangpur, 63 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, 17 in Nilphamari, 12 in Kurigram, 18 in Thakurgaon, 10 in Panchagarh and eight in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among all 10,929 COVID-19 positive cases stands at over 1.70 percent in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

A total of 74,594 people were put in quarantine since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, and among them, 68,831 have so far been released and 5,763 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to give treatments to the infected patients and face the COVID-19 situation.

“We have received a total of 1,79,313 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) so far, and of those, distributed 1,19,284 pieces with a current stock of 60,029 pieces in the division,” Dr. Ahmed said.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said comprehensive steps have been taken to provide improved health services to the infected patients and inspire the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread.
