2624 vegetable and nutrition gardens set up in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA SEP 01, 2020(BSS)- Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) this year has set up a total of 2624 vegetables and nutrition gardens at the homestead of the farmers of all seven upazilas of the district.

DAE sources said basic objective of the setting up of the vegetable and nutrition garden is to meet the demand of nutrition and to change the socio economic condition of the growers.

Earlier, the government took the decision to establish the vegetable and nutrition garden at grass root level to attain the cherished goal and accordingly, DAE has set up the vegetable and nutrition gardens in all 82 unions of the district.

The one decimal garden consists of various seasonal vegetables including lalshak, palongshak, datashak, puishak, begoon, tomato, chilli and dhoniya pata .

The department also provided TK 1935 to each farmer for fencing, platforms and other management purposes of the garden.

Of the total, 416 vegetables and nutrition garden were setup in Sadar upazila, 352 in Sadullapur upazila, 288 in Palashbari upazila, 544 in Gobindaganj upazila, 480 in Sundarganj upazila, 320 in Shaghata upazila and 224 in Fulchhari upazila.

Joynal Abedin, a farmer of Boiddyonath village under Sundarganj upazila said after being inspired by the field level DAE officials he set up vegetable and nutrition gardens on his homestead last month.

Deputy Director of DAE Agriculturist Masudur Rahman told BSS that setting up of the garden had already been completed and seasonal vegetables are being hugely produced there.

The concerned Sub-Assistant Agriculture officers were made necessary directives and asked to take care of the gardens properly for making thosesuccessful.

Apart from it, DAE officials are often visiting the vegetable and nutrition gardens and instructing the owners of the garden about its various aspects .
