Turkey providing assistance to repair navy ship damaged in Beirut blast: ISPR

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh’s friendly country Turkey is providing all necessary assistances to repair a Bangladesh Navy Ship (BNS) damaged in the explosion at the Port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

With the help of Turkish Navy’s tug boat TCG INEBOLU, the BNS “Bijoy” reached the AKSAZ Naval Dockyard in Turkey on Sunday (August 30), crossing about 450 miles along the sea, said an Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) press release here today.

Turkey has extended its special cooperative hands in determining damages to the naval ship ‘Bijoy’ and its seabed in details and repairing the ship, it added.

Necessary repairs of the BNS ‘Bijoy’ will be carried out at the Turkish naval base in accordance with the instructions of the United Nations (UN) and under the overall supervision of the Naval Headquarters.

After the renovation, the ship is expected to leave for Beirut, Lebanon, on September 7.

The BNS “Bijoy”, which was engaged in UN peacekeeping mission under the Maritime Task Force, was damaged in the explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4.

As a member of the Multinational Maritime Task Force in the Mediterranean Sea, Bangladesh Navy warships have been participating in the UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon since 2010.
