Tigers to start group practice from tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 30, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh cricketers finally are going
to start the group practice, from which they were barred due to the fear of
novel coronavirus.

But as the Sri Lanka tour is approaching fast, the team management
unleashed the group practice modules in accordance with standard health
protocol keeping match scenario in mind.

The group practice will start in limited scale from tomorrow (Monday) at
the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, as per the training schedule
released by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The batsman will have the
opportunity to bat at the center wicket for almost six months. Mohammad
Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim will first get the chance to bat at the center
wicket according to the schedule. Fast bowler Mehedi Hasan Rana, spinners duo
Taijul Islam and Aminul Islam Biplob will bowl them. Mahmudullah and Soumya
Sarkar later will bat against three fast bowlers-Taskin Ahmed, Shaiful Islam
and Al-Amin Hossain. Later gradually all the batsmen will bat against the
fast bowlers and spinners to hone their skill. At the same time, the
individual batting and fitness training will be going on.

BCB opened their doors for individual practice session from July 26
after ensuring a standard health protocol.

Bangladesh’s tour to Sri Lanka which was scheduled for July-August,
comprising three Tests but was postponed indefinitely because of the COVID-19
pandemic. However later it was rescheduled after the T20 World Cup and Asia
Cup was postponed.

The Tigers are scheduled to travel to the Island on September 28 after
completing a one-week residential camp in Bangladesh. “It is mentioned in the
health guidelines that individual training will be followed by group
training,” BCB chief physical Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said.

“Firstly it will start in limited scale and we will expand it. We will
do group practice in which a batsman will bat against a bowler for example
Mushfiqur Rahim will bat against Taskin Ahmed and at times a batsman can bat
against two bowlers with one being a pacer and another one a spinner. We are
trying to conduct it on the basis of match scenario,” he added.
