19,400 Manikganj vegetables farmers get over Tk 1cr incentive

MANIKGANJ, Aug 30, 2020 (BSS) – The government has been distributing a total of Tk. one crore 13 lac 48 thousand among 19,400 poor and marginal flood affected farmers as incentive for cultivating short and mid-term vegetable in all the seven upazilas of the district.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said each of the peasants is getting incentive for cultivation short term vegetables like Lalshak (red spinach), Datashak, Kalmishak (water spinach), Mulashak (radish spinach) and Palongshak (leafy spinach) and midterm vegetables like Cucumber, Bottle gourd, Pumpkin, Bitter gourd, Yard long bean and Beans on one bigha of land.

Md. Shahjahan Ali Biswas, Deputy Director of DAE said the soil of Manikganj, specially Singair and Saturia Upazilas, is suitable for vegetable cultivation.

Vegetables of Manikganj generally are supplied to the different parts of the country including the capital city and it is one of the cash crops of the district, he added.
