Relief items distributed among distressed people in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Aug 30 (BSS) – A total of 100 river eroded and flood affected people of Kamarjani and its adjoining areas under Sadar upazila here got relief materials from the district administration and Bangladesh Scouts and Rovers, district unit, on Saturday.

Each of the beneficiaries received a sack of relief materials containing rice, pulse and soybean oil.

A simple function was arranged on the premises of Kamarjani Merchant’s High School in the afternoon on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) addressed the function as the chief guest.

He said the government took initiative to protect the Brahmaputra river bank from the erosion from Kamarjani to Haripur.

A project involving TK 400 crore had already been approved in the meeting of the ECNEC in the month of July, he also said.

The river bank protection work might start during the dry season, he added.

He also thanked the district rovers and scouts for standing beside the river eroded people of Kamarjani and its neighboring areas with relief materials on humanitarian ground to help pass their hardships caused by river erosion and flood.

Later, the DC, also chairperson of district rovers and scouts, formally handed over sacks of relief materials to 100 distressed people.

A large number of people including public representatives, social workers, invited guests and teachers of the school were present on the occasion.
